Have you ever wanted to learn to crochet, knit, or embroider? Well I have some news for you, 6th graders Ruby Nordstrom and Amelia Hervin are starting a student-led yarn club next school year. This club will include crocheting, knitting, and embroidery, but with community.
“We want people of all levels to join this club so that people can teach others,” Ruby and Amelia stated. Whether you are a beginner or more advanced, this club hopes to bring things like community and a sense of belonging to the students at FWPA. Yarn club is a place where you can learn new things, even start a new hobby, but also so students can have fun.
Club adviser Mrs. Nordstrom explains, “I think we already have a lot of students who knit and crochet and that sort of thing so being able to bring students together who have the same hobby will be really fun.” If you are having trouble finding community with people that have the same interest as you, joining a club is a great option to grow that.
The Yarn club will be held once a week from 3-4 pm. The day of the week is to be determined so definitely stay tuned. It will be held in Mrs. Nordstrom’s classroom, room 105. For the first meeting, Ruby and Amelia are planning on having snacks and giving more information on what the club will look like.
So with all that being said, we hope you join Yarn Club or go to the first meeting and give it a try. Don’t be nervous if you don’t know how to crochet, knit, etc. Put yourself out there and make friends that will last at FWPA.
Even if you don’t want to join the Yarn club, but you have an interest of your own that isn’t already a club, look into how you can start a club. We would love to see more clubs at FWPA. We’re looking forward to seeing the success of Yarn Club and any other new clubs at FWPA next school year.
