Are you always looking for things to watch or read during summer? Students agree that movies, shows, and books can help to pass the time and provide entertainment, and they can make summer feel more fun and joyful. There are also many different genres of summer themed media that people at FWPA enjoy, so there are a variety of recommendations to get inspiration.
For example, summer romance movies and shows are a favorite genre among some students. Kaitlin O’Neill said that if she could only watch one show for the entire summer it would be The Summer I Turned Pretty. “It is a very hopeful show with relatable characters,” Kaitlin explained. For summer romance books, Kaitlin recommended The Summer I Turned Pretty book series as well as The Summer of Broken Rules.
Additionally, Yasmeen Rabbo said she watches a lot of movies, however, she explained, “My favorite summer themed one is The Notebook.” She added, “Summer movies can be comforting because you don’t have to worry about anything in summer.”
In addition, Makayla Weiss said that a summer movie she enjoys is Tall Girl 2. “I would absolutely recommend it to other students,” she stated.
Furthermore, comedy movies and shows can be a popular choice in the summertime for some people at FWPA. Leander Fenimore actually admitted that he doesn’t usually like watching seasonal movies. “It’s always annoying and it’s always the same thing and the same trope,” he declared. However, he did recommend SpongeBob and Sonic 1 to students because they are wholesome and good for summertime. “SpongeBob is funny while also not being too annoying,” Leander explained.
Also, Mr. Roberts said that in summer he likes to watch whatever “schlocky” horror movie has just come out. This genre of horror movies involves comedy, and they are often low-budget and cheesy. “I like watching them so I can make fun of them,” he clarified.
Additionally, Phoebe Farber recommended Mamma Mia! “I like to watch it in summer because it’s a lighthearted movie with really fun summer vibes,” she explained.
Lastly, many people enjoy a fantasy genre for summer media. Phoebe also said that she enjoys watching Moana during summertime. “It’s a nostalgic movie for me because I would always watch it several times every summer when I was younger,” she added.
Makayla stated that her favorite summer show is Just Add Magic. “It’s very interesting and entertaining,” she explained.
Additionally, Mr. Roberts said that if he could only watch one movie for his entire summer it would be The Princess Bride. “It’s a very solid film,” he noted. Mr. Roberts also recommended the book version of The Princess Bride and encouraged students to read over the summer. “The brain is a muscle. If you don’t read, you’re definitely going to lose some stuff,” he explained.
There are many recommendations from people at FWPA to get entertainment in summer, from movies, to shows, to books. Whether it be romance, comedy, fantasy, or something else, there is lots to choose from. Also, several people at FWPA said that they hope their recommendations inspire other students to watch or read something new, and help make it start to feel like summer.
