After years of working at FWPA, some of the staff members are getting ready to retire or leave FWPA. These staff members are Ms. Hewitt, Mrs. Butler and Ms. Call. After helping students to improve their critical skills for so long, they are ready to move on to do something else.
Mrs. Hewitt is not fully retiring yet, but she is moving on from FWPA this year. She shared why she wants to leave FWPA when she explained that, “I love the students at FWPA, but I want to use my skills in a different way.” For seven years, her job at this school was being a student support teacher. Mrs. Hewitt is also planning on working with young adults individually to help them earn their General Education Development and additionally tutoring kids in Math. After she leaves FWPA, she will have more free time and will be able to do the personal hobbies she likes. “My husband and I love to take trips, especially to concerts. I will have more freedom to do that,” Mrs. Hewitt shared.
Mrs. Butler is retiring due to her age; she’s been working since 1974. She has worked at FWPA for three and a half years, and her role is student support services. Mrs. Butler worked in the same room as Ms. Hewitt. Mrs. Butler shared her favorite memory: “I liked egg drop. That was fun,” she mentioned.
Last up, Ms. Call is also retiring this year. She has worked in this school for 9 years. Ms. Call comes to FWPA every Wednesday to work with students who needed support in their speech skills as a language pathologist. “My favorite memory is seeing kids progress with their speech goals and being excited from speech services so they can stay in their classrooms instead of having to come and do speech services,” Ms. Call commented. She worked for 30 years and “now it’s time to do something else,” she explained.
As some of the most senior teachers at FWPA, people hope the retiring teachers only remember the best parts of being at this school and have a happy retirement. Thank you so much for all your hard work and for always helping the students here.
