Imagine a FWPA student: What do you think they would do in their free time? Would they work on some homework, play sports, or talk to friends? They pull out their smartphone. Which app do they choose? Instagram, YouTube, or do they choose to call their parents? It’s none other than Clash Royale!
So, how did the game get popular?
There are different factors to Clash Royale’s popularity, but there are two main factors: streamers and the game’s alleged “addictiveness.” According to Caleb Johnson, “Streamers like Jynxzi and Mohamed Light have made the game popular with their reactions [in their videos].” Many people think the same way.
How is the game addictive? Is that how it got a lot of people playing?
The game has been noted for having some features that can be addicting, although it is all on the player. “I think it’s addictive because the goal is to gain trophies, so if you lose a match you lose around 30 trophies, so you’re constantly trying to gain your lost trophies and it could last a while leading to addiction,” Ericka Sun says about the game.
Why do students like the game?
There are many different reasons the kids like the game, and here are some from students at FWPA. According to Alex Resendiz Cabrera, “You get to play with friends, get famous, or go to a world championship [and] it can help pass the time or you can play it when you’re bored.” It’s noted that lots of students are saying that they want to progress in the game, and when they do, it’s very rewarding. There is a trophy system, where when you win a match against a random player, you earn thirty trophies, however, if you lose a game, you lose thirty trophies. This gives the player a “risk and reward” situation which can be fun for players. Some also say that Clash Royale is a game that requires strategic thinking, and it has competitive gameplay, which can be fun for people.
