Ms. Lasch, a math teacher at FWPA, retires after teaching for 37 years. Since Ms. Lasch’s chapter with teaching has come to an end, she has decided to move to Arizona to be closer to her family.
During Ms. Lasch’s time as a teacher she had taught two main subjects, math and history, but she primarily spent her career teaching math. As a student teacher, Ms. Lasch spent two years teaching history. It wasn’t until 4 years ago when Ms. Tee was principal that she was able to teach history for another 2 years.
The news of Ms. Lasch’s retirement was found to be unexpected by students, as many students hadn’t known Ms. Lasch would retire this year. Current students who had Ms. Lasch, such as Micheal Nguyen, expressed their thoughts on the topic, “I found it shocking that Ms. Lasch is retiring, I thought she would stay for another year.”
At a location for so long, Ms. Lasch created a community among her students. Her classroom had acted as a place where students feel included. Ms. Lasch had pulled the learning experience together for many students. A student in Ms. Lasch’s geometry class, Jewell Bowman, adds on to this legacy, “Ms. Lasch has made FWPA more inclusive as she brings us together in a wholehearted way. I think she just makes it more like home.”
FWPA had acted much like Ms. Lasch’s home ever since she joined. The school had given her so many experiences, memories, and joy. It is hard to let go of all the memories one place can hold. Even with this sense of place, Ms. Lasch was ready to end this chapter of her life, and begin creating a new one. Ms. Lasch further explains, “FWPA has given me a lot, but I’m excited for the next chapter of my life, so I will look back at FWPA with great fondness, but ready to move on.”
