What do you do in your free time? Do you play sports? Read books? Watch shows? How about playing video games? Video games have been a rising piece of media for the last several decades and have cemented themselves in culture. Whether you play games to destress and have fun or even to compete, it’s clear that they are a large part of our generation’s culture. Even a few teachers consistently use this medium to have fun in their free time.
One of these teachers that plays video games is Mr. Filler. “I’ve recently been playing a lot of VR (Virtual Reality),” he explains. He’s been playing a VR game called Arizona Sunshine in particular. One of his favorite games of all time is Kingdom Hearts II. He usually plays by himself or with some friends and sometimes even his wife. When he plays co-op (cooperative) games, he usually plays Helldivers with his friend or on the Nintendo Switch with his wife. The gaming accomplishment he’s most proud of is completing one of the first Zelda games. What made this such an accomplishment was that this game had a large map, however it didn’t provide you with one to navigate. So without any tutorials, a younger Mr. Filler had to make his own map to navigate the game and beat it.
Another teacher who plays video games in their free time is Mr. Roberts. He’s been playing Elder Scrolls online. Some of his favorite games are Civilization and Sea of Thieves. He’s looking forward to the next season of Sea of Thieves since it’ll ”include new mechanics and monsters to fight,” he explains. The gaming achievement he’s most proud of is fishing the same fish in Sea of Thieves 500 times as it rewarded him with a rare trophy. He usually plays with old college and high school friends.
The last teacher that plays video games is Mr. Scott. One of his favorite games is Minecraft. As of recently, he’s been playing Far Cry New Dawn. His favorite gaming experience was “getting a Fortnite win with my boys,” he explained. This was an achievement for him since he says he’s not very good at the game and his sons helped him get his first win. One game he’s looking forward to is Star Wars Outlaws. He usually plays games by himself or occasionally with his sons.
Even teachers can have fun playing video games. Maybe you even found some way to relate to them on a more personal level than you wouldn’t have otherwise.
