In order to be well rounded and have a broad understanding of the world, it is important to learn about many cultures. One place students can go to learn about culture is the Spanish club. The Spanish club meets every Monday and Wednesday from 3 to 4 p.m. and is a place that is dedicated to teaching students about Hispanic culture in a way that is fun and engaging. “The way the Spanish club attempts to spread knowledge about Hispanic culture in a fun way is through the activities we do,” exclaimed 10th grader Saulo Rodriguez, the Spanish club president. One of the activities the Spanish club has done was a fundraiser that allowed students to pay to swing a bat at a piñata. In order to do this, members spent a couple of weeks making the piñatas out of paper mache and cardboard. Another activity the Spanish club has done was running a food stand during lunch. At this food stand, members sold flavored sparkling water, chips, fruit gummies, and a Mexican treat called ‘bolis.’ Bolis are sweet and creamy tubes of ice cream that are commonly found throughout Mexico and Latin America. It is through the fundraisers and activities like these that the Spanish club is able to make learning about culture exciting.
