Everyone has something they do in the morning before school, whether it’s scrolling through their phone as soon as they wake up or rushing to finish any last minute homework. Morning routines are different from person to person, shaping the way they start their day. Let’s take a look at how some individuals at FWPA begin their mornings, starting with the middle school science teacher, Mr. Young. Mr. Young starts his day bright and early at 4 a.m., beginning with a fresh cup of coffee, one for himself and one for Mrs. Young. While waking up is his least favorite part of the day, his morning coffee is something he always looks forward to. After finishing a bowl of yogurt, he takes care of his responsibilities at home, like cleaning the cat litter and taking out the trash, not wanting to come home to grumpy pets. His routine takes nearly two and a half hours, far longer than that of sixth grader Wilson Nguyen. In his first year at FWPA, Wilson has kept his morning routine fairly simple. He wakes up around 7 a.m. and changes his clothes. Some days, he wakes up ten minutes earlier to give himself extra time for his morning work. While he doesn’t enjoy going to school, he does enjoy breakfast, especially cereal. It’s quick, easy, and his favorite meal to eat for breakfast. After eating, he packs his case-it, an item required for every sixth grader, before heading out with his older sister. Another student with a 7 a.m. wake-up time is seventh grader Ava Nguyen. Ava’s least favorite part of the day is waking up, but she helps herself adjust by stretching first thing in the morning. Since she shares a bathroom, she wakes up early to use it first, starting with icing her face to help wake herself up and reduce puffiness. She follows up with basic skincare, brushes her teeth, and then gets dressed. Afterward, she applies simple makeup before heading out. Unlike Wilson, Ava skips breakfast, not feeling hungry in the mornings and not having much time left before leaving for school. Eighth grader Angelena Krivoruchko, now halfway through her third year at FWPA, starts her morning by checking her phone for messages and videos, followed by her daily prayers. Afterward, she gets up, changes out of her pajamas, and heads to the bathroom to wash her face and brush her teeth. She styles her hair first before curling her lashes, something she does every day. Once she’s ready, she puts on her shoes, grabs a snack and water from the kitchen, and heads out. The highlight of her morning? Getting to school and seeing her friends. For 10th grader Ruby Jameson, mornings are straightforward. Though she isn’t particularly proud of it, she starts each day by checking her phone. Her routine has remained consistent this school year- waking up at 6 a.m., picking out her clothes, getting dressed, and doing her makeup. Most days, she eats breakfast, usually deciding on fruit because it’s quick and convenient. After brushing her teeth, she heads to school, looking forward to seeing her friends. Morning routines are usually different, changing from person to person, despite that, they still set the tone for the day. Whether your morning may be spent enjoying a favorite breakfast, spending time on some self-care, or just looking forward to seeing friends, someone’s morning is unique to them. While some wake up early and take their time, others prefer to sleep in and keep their routine quick, no matter what it is you do in the morning, what matters most is starting the day in a way that works best for you. |
