Every year, Federal Way Public Academy has an annual event held during the fall, called the Festival of Giving. During this event, students, families, staff, and friends join together to enjoy the fall festivities and make new memories.
There are many traditions FWPA has during the festival, which includes fun games and activities. Some of this year’s games included Just Dance, Mini-Golf, Find the Snowman, and Donuts on a String. These were held in the advisory classes, run by both teachers and students. At the event, other students would visit classrooms and participate in various games.
Student volunteers play a huge role in the success of the festival. They work shifts to help with things like running games, concession stands, creating gifts to sell in the shop, and ticket sales. Our community service club also voluntarily participates by selling treats like nachos, cookies, hot chocolate, and apple cider to raise additional funds for the cause.
The Festival of Giving is FWPA’s yearly fundraiser for the Friends of Kenya Rising, an organization which assists Kenyan students and families with daily necessities, and financially supports students so they can pursue secondary education. Other fundraisers that the community service club supports include selling bracelets and food through the Pulsera Project, and the coat and blanket drive (to support the homeless and animal rescue groups).
Our school aims to strengthen our community and have a positive impact on the lives of those around us. These events allow our community to give our students a place where they can both work and have fun, while allowing us to reach out and support others. The events hosted by our school provide moments for students to bond with friends, while also enjoying the memories they make at FWPA.
Julia Dumar shared, “My favorite game station was Donut on a String. The most festive class was Mr. Robert’s room, and her favorite part of the event was getting to play the games.” shared, “A festivity I’d like to add next year is pin the tail on the donkey. My favorite game station was the donut game in Mrs. Nordstrom’s room. Mr. Robert’s by far has the most festive class, and I loved the little purses in the gift shop, they were beautiful!”
