The soccer transfer window opened January 1. This year, specifically, the points are very close in almost every top 5 league. The transfer market allows one club to buy a specific player from another club. The amount of money the team gets depends on the player’s performance and if their contract is ending or not. One signing can change the whole table in a good way or a bad way depending on the player. Here are some FWPA students’ takes on what transfers they think will happen and why.
Juan Tobar Blanco (10th): Nico Williams to Barcelona. “I wanted this deal to happen last summer, but my club was too broke. It’s different this transfer window; we could also really do with a backup left winger.” This deal could really help Barcelona against bigger teams because as of right now they are heavily dependent on Lamine Yamal. They need someone creative so that the front forwards can actually do their job and score.
Essa Gaye (10th): Viktor Gyökeres to Manchester United. “He’s the best striker in the world; as of right now, he is leading the scoring sheet for not only his league but also the United Nations tournament.” The past few games, Gyökeres has not been shining the way he used to be, and that’s because Sporting’s old manager went to Manchester United. Gyökeres really thrived in the old managers system because every manager has a different system. This is one of the reasons why Gyökeres will probably go to Manchester United.
Anna Martynyuk (7th): Mohamed Salah to Barcelona. “I think this deal will happen because Liverpool is not pushing to sign a new contract with Salah. If he leaves, he wants to go to a great club, and as of right now the two best clubs in the world are Barcelona and Liverpool.” Salah has also said this publicly, which the Liverpool board was not happy about. That reduces the chance of them actually extending their contract with Salah.
