Study Session is a place that supports students with their schoolwork. It provides a safe environment where students can ask for help with their assignments or find a comfortable place to study. The club promotes academic success and personal development in addition to being able to work alongside their friends. The club is from 3:05 to 4:00, in room 103, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and with just a simple sign-in, you’re in! As a part of the National Honor Society, President Brandon Nguyen leads the club, and Mrs. Leah is the advisor. The club tutors students from all grade levels.
The tutors of Study Session are composed of current Honor Society members, which are students who’ve had a 3.5+ GPA for at least two semesters in a row and are handpicked by the faculty. When Essey Mehreteab, one of the tutors, was asked why he decided to help, he responded, “For [community service] hours and fun,” and also noted, “I’ve learned that tutoring can be funny.” The club has six or seven tutors helping 25 to 30 students every session.
Although the club has only been up and running since the start of October, it has already impacted some of the regular participants. On top of that, the number of students has doubled since last year, with the number of previous year’s attendees being 10-15 students. Esther Song, one of the 10th graders who has been attending Study Session since last year, said, “I saw great improvements in my grades.”
