Fish-shaped ice cream. These are some of the options for taiyaki at Matcha Man in Seattle. On the left is pineapple ice cream with strawberry syrup and matcha pocky and on the right is ube ice cream with coconut shavings.
Summer break has started. It’s a hot day and you’re bored. School has ended and you don’t know what to do over the summer. What summer activity do you do? Where do you go?
Ice Cream
It’s a hot day in the middle of July and you want something sweet but cold, you think of ice cream. What ice cream shop do you go to? There’s too many options, but you could go to Matcha Man in Georgetown, Seattle. Matcha Man is a small ice cream shop that offers ice cream on taiyaki. They also change their flavors every couple of months from ube to matcha to orange dreamsicle. To add on, they offer toppings like fruity pebbles and coconut flakes. You can also choose fillings for the taiyaki such as nutella or red bean paste. If ice cream doesn’t convince you, they also have tea, coffee, and saku\ra shakes. They are located just off of I-5.
Swimming
It’s a hot day and you want to work out but still stay cool. Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center is the place Daniel Huh goes to swim. It’s clean and the staff is friendly. “It has a lot of activities I am able to engage in,” explains Daniel. Weyerhaeuser is down the street from FWPA on SW Campus Drive. They have swim meets but also have open pools to everyone for a couple hours every day.
Walking
It’s a long day and you need to stretch your legs, but how do you stretch out and where do you go? Well, for Angeli Luo, she walks around her neighborhood and at parks too. She likes to walk around because she has a lot of free time and walking helps her mood. “There are also a few rabbits that show up in my neighborhood every now and then and sometimes I cross paths with them while on a walk, too,” exclaimed Angeli. If walking around your neighborhood doesn’t interest you, there are trails and hikes nearby. BPA trail is a 3.8 mile long trail that goes through all of Federal Way, going by the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center and Celebration Park. They are pet friendly and an easy way of walking through the city. Or, you can go to a scenic spot like Dash Point State Park, which has a long trail that goes to the beach. They also have campgrounds if you want to camp there. Plus, it is pet friendly and will give your furry friend a great time.
These are just a few of the things FWPA students do during summer. There is much more available to do but here are just some suggestions. Have a good summer.
