At FWPA, community service is a requirement. We need it to graduate. The way we get these volunteer hours is by helping out the community. There’s a lot of ways to get these hours. Some options are to go and help clean tanks at aquariums, or you could go and be a caretaker.
Anthony Ramos, an 8th grader, has a few ways to get his hours. He participates in safety patrol. He helps students get in and out of the school safely. He’s also in the gardening club, helping to beautify the campus by picking up trash and planting new plants like trees and azaleas. Finally, he helps the Federal Way Senior Center, helping to package food and clean up rooms. He helps out to volunteer at the senior center on Mondays and Wednesdays for 4 hours each time. “I recommend the senior center ’cause it’s nice and kind and sometimes you can get candy,” explained Anthony.
Aidan Hong, a 6th grader, is deciding to help pick up trash around his neighborhood. He will pick up anything from bottle caps and plastic bags to glass shards and soggy paper. This is a popular choice at FWPA but it’s still worthwhile for the volunteer hours. “I recommend picking up trash,” exclaimed Aidan, “because it’s easy and I can do it every day.”
Isabella Hwang, an 8th grader, is helping out at the Federal Way Library. She goes after school to help run activities for kids waiting for their parents. She also gives out food for the kids. She helps out after school on Mondays for 2 hours each time. “I would recommend working at the library ‘cause it’s easy.” Isabella explained.
As the school year is ending in a few months, we need to finish and document our community service. And with these students’ help, the community is thankful.
